Lincoln businessman Ross Taylor has not only smashed a 140-mile-long triathlon recently, but after six months of training, gruelling challenges and an eye-watering crash, he has managed to raise over £1,000 for a cause he knows sadly too well.
Ross, who last year raised money for charities Cancer Research UK and Diabetes UK, decided this year to complete the Outlaw Iron Distance Triathlon in Nottingham in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Inspired by old school friend Adie Hickling who suffers from MND, Ross set about training for the event which tasked fundraisers with a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile run.
He completed the triathlon at the National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepont in 11 hours and 26 minutes on July 26, despite three crashes and a painful knee injury.
Ross, who is the director of Sleaford Electrical and Refrigeration Company in Washingborough, said: “I am really pleased to have raised so much money for MND and Adie’s cause.
“Adie & I used to play football together locally before his onset of MND and Adie also used to be compete as a body builder too. This shows that MND can affect anyone regardless of how fit and sporty you are!
“Adie inspired me to raise money for this great cause with his amazing spirit and sense of humour in times of such adversity. Adie’s wife Kiran and daughter Asha are also amazing and an inspiration to us all.
“It was extremely tough but I was determined not to give in!”
